Learn: Madd (Elongation)
Short, natural, and obligatory stretches
Learn when and how long to stretch a vowel — from 2-count natural madd to 6-count obligatory madd.
Madd lengthens a letter so the sound is not clipped. Counts come from the lesson, not from an AI grade.
What you will be able to do
- Distinguish natural madd (2 counts) from secondary madd types.
- Apply obligatory connected madd (madd lazim) of 6 counts correctly.
- Recognise madd 'iwad, madd badal, and madd leen in context.
Worked example in this lesson: ayah 1:1.
