Taking a photo

Computer Science · Early Years · The School

Pressing the button

Hold the tablet with two hands. Look at the screen. See what the camera sees. Press the button gently. Now you have a photo. You can look at it again, any time you like, whenever you want.

Only what fits inside

A photo only shows what fits in its frame. Point the camera at a toy on a messy table. The photo shows the toy. It does not show the mess. That mess sits just outside the frame, completely out of sight.

Looking back

Look at your photo on the screen. Is it clear? Is your toy in the middle? If not, that is fine. Try again. Take one more photo. Most good photos take more than one try to get right.

Photos help us remember

A photo can help you remember a fun day. Look at an old photo with a friend. What can you both remember? Just from looking at one small picture, a whole happy day can come flooding back to you.

Close and far away

Try taking two photos of the same toy. Stand close for one photo. Stand far away for the other one. Look at both photos. The toy looks big in one and small in the other, just because of where you stood.
