The Quran — Allah's special book

Allah's own words
The Quran is a very special book. Muslims believe it holds Allah's own words. It was given a long time ago. Many Muslims read or listen to it often. Many learn to say it by heart. They learn it word for word, bit by bit. It is not like any other book on the shelf.
Handled with care
Muslims keep the Quran in a clean, high place. They wash their hands first. Then they hold it to read. They never put anything on top of it. These are all ways to show it great care. Each step comes before the reading starts.
Listening and reciting
Reciting means saying the words out loud. It is done in a special way. Many Muslims recite the Quran often. Some read or listen to it every day. Some kids start to learn small parts by heart. They do this when they are still very young.
A book that is read, not just kept
The Quran is not just kept on a shelf to look nice. Many Muslims open it. They read it a lot, at home. Reading it is just part of daily life. It is that way for many Muslim homes. It is not just for special days.
One evening, before dinner
Here is an imagined story. Sana sees a Quran on a low table. A cup of juice sits right next to it. It could spill on the book. So Sana moves the cup far away. Next she makes wudu. Wudu is a special way to wash. Many Muslims make wudu before they touch the Quran. Sana lifts the Quran with clean hands. She reads a little with her dad. Then she carries it to a high shelf. She puts no books on top of it. Now the Quran is safe and clean. Some Muslims keep it high, with no books on it, to show care.
